Woman Sentenced for Assaulting Minors

A disturbing case of child abuse has come to light in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Terri Kills Crow, a 28-year-old woman, has been sentenced for two counts of simple assault of a minor.

According to court documents, Kills Crow assaulted two minor victims in November 2012. In the first incident, she grabbed the victim’s arm and pulled it in an inappropriate, excessive, and offensive manner, causing the victim great pain and exacerbating an existing arm injury. In the second incident, Kills Crow hit the victim with a fly swatter in an excessive and offensive manner, going beyond any normal or reasonable means of punishment or correction for a young child.

Terri Kills Crow was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 15, 2013, and pled guilty to two counts of Simple Assault of a Minor on February 21, 2014. The conviction was the result of a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno handed down the sentence on May 2, 2014. Kills Crow received 24 months of probation and a $50 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson. In a statement, Hanson expressed his concern for the well-being of the minor victims and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
