BOSTON – The gritty streets of Worcester have seen another tough bust as Christian Diaz, 31, was taken into custody yesterday and charged with transporting stolen laptops across state lines.
Diaz has been indicted on a single count of interstate transportation of stolen goods, marking the start of what promises to be a high-stakes legal battle. The defendant is set to face federal court at a later date.
As per the indictment, Diaz’s alleged criminal activities spanned from August 11, 2015, through September 30, 2015. During this period, he was accused of moving stolen laptops across state lines, a move that violated federal commerce laws.
The severity of his charges is underlined by the potential sentence, which could include up to 10 years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Diaz also faces a fine of $250,000 and the obligation to pay restitution for his victims.
United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling and Joseph W. Cronin, Postal Inspector for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s Boston Division, jointly announced the charges against Diaz. Assistant U.S. Attorney Danial E. Bennett of the Worcester Branch Office will be prosecuting the case.
The allegations contained in the indictment are merely accusations at this stage. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
