Charleston, SC – In a shocking turn of events, Samuel Bobby Wright, 67, and Horace Edmond Wright, 52, both of Charleston, South Carolina, pleaded guilty to multiple counts of distribution of heroin and fentanyl, respectively. The Wright brothers’ crimes have sent shockwaves through the community, leaving many to wonder how such a brazen operation went undetected for so long.
According to evidence presented at the change of plea hearings, Samuel Bobby Wright sold heroin from a residence located slightly north of Septima Clark Parkway on the peninsula on multiple occasions in June and July of 2017. He also sold fentanyl from the same address on multiple occasions in September of that year. Horace Edmond Wright sold heroin from outside of the same residence on July 13 and 18, 2017.
U.S. Attorney Sherri A. Lydon stated that the maximum penalty the Wright brothers could receive is 30 years imprisonment and a fine of $2,000,000 dollars. The case was investigated by agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Charleston City Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Jamie Lea Schoen of the Charleston office prosecuted the case.
The guilty pleas were accepted by Senior United States District Judge Patrick Michael Duffy, who will impose the sentences after reviewing the presentence reports prepared by the U.S. Probation Office. The Wright brothers’ crimes are a stark reminder of the opioid epidemic that continues to plague our nation, and the devastating consequences that can result from such reckless behavior.
As the community continues to grapple with the aftermath of the Wright brothers’ crimes, many are left wondering how such a brazen operation went undetected for so long. The case serves as a stark reminder of the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies to combat the ever-evolving threat of opioid trafficking.
The Wright brothers’ guilty pleas are a major blow to the opioid trafficking syndicate that operated in Charleston, and a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies to bring such individuals to justice. As the case moves forward, one thing is clear: the Wright brothers will face the consequences of their actions, and the community will be safer as a result.
