A federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging Clarksburg resident Brittney Michelle Walls, 26, with prescription medication trafficking.
According to a federal indictment, Walls was allegedly discovered in possession of buprenorphine, a schedule three controlled substance used to treat pain and opioid addiction, and alprazolam, a schedule four controlled substance used to treat anxiety, in May 2015 in Harrison County, West Virginia.
Walls faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for possessing schedule four controlled substances and up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000 for possessing schedule three controlled substances.
‘An indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty,’” stated William J. Ihlenfeld, II, United States Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Cogar on behalf of the government. The Greater Harrison County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, and the West Virginia State Police are leading the investigation.
