“YGG Tay” Gets 15 Years for Baltimore Drug & Gun Operation
BALTIMORE, MD – Davante Harrison, a/k/a “YGG Tay,” 27, of Baltimore, will spend the next 15 years in federal prison following a conviction for leading a drug conspiracy that flooded Baltimore and Baltimore County with deadly narcotics. U.S. District Judge Paul W. Grimm handed down the sentence yesterday, adding five years of supervised release to the term. Harrison was found guilty on August 20, 2021, after a five-day jury trial, on charges including conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and crack cocaine, plus multiple firearms offenses.
The case, spearheaded by the FBI, Baltimore Police Department, and Anne Arundel County Police Department, revealed Harrison’s role as the alleged leader of the “Young Go Getters” group. Evidence presented at trial showed Harrison operating a network distributing poison throughout the city and county in October and November of 2019. Investigators surveilled him making short, frequent stops at locations in Rosedale and Golden Ring Park, conducting drug deals before allegedly laundering the proceeds at a Delaware casino. It’s a familiar story: a desperate attempt to profit from the misery of others, and a callous disregard for the lives destroyed by addiction.
The bust wasn’t just about drugs. On November 25, 2019, FBI investigators raided locations linked to the conspiracy, including a search of Harrison himself. They found $9,277 in cash – dirty money directly linked to his trafficking operation – and a loaded .40 caliber handgun with an extended 17-round magazine. A subsequent search of a stash location turned up a veritable arsenal: a 9mm pistol (16 rounds), a .25 caliber pistol (5 rounds), and enough narcotics to kill a city. Specifically, 386 grams of fentanyl/heroin mixture, 40 grams of cocaine, 50 grams of heroin/fentanyl mix, 27 grams of crack cocaine, and 71 grams of fentanyl. Paraphernalia littered the scene, a grim testament to the scale of the operation.
Harrison, already a convicted felon, knew he was prohibited from possessing firearms. That didn’t stop him from arming himself to protect his illicit profits. The sentence sends a clear message, though whether it’s enough to deter others remains to be seen. Co-defendant Christopher Jerry, 30, of Baltimore, has already pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing on December 2, 2021. The investigation continues, and authorities haven’t ruled out further arrests.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice program focused on reducing violent crime through coordinated law enforcement efforts and community partnerships. According to officials, PSN targets the most dangerous offenders and invests in prevention and reentry programs. It’s a long-term strategy, but one that’s desperately needed in a city grappling with a seemingly endless cycle of violence and addiction.
United States Attorney Erek L. Barron praised the work of the FBI, Baltimore Police, and Anne Arundel County Police. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christine Goo and Charles Austin prosecuted the case.
