HARRISBURG, PA – A York man is finally facing federal charges for his role in a brazen armed robbery that rocked the city back in January 2016. Ryan Warnick, 37, was named in a Criminal Information filed today in U.S. District Court, alleging he acted as the getaway driver for a PNC Bank heist.
According to U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, Warnick aided and abetted Derek Bowman, 34, of York, during the robbery. Bowman, already convicted, is currently serving a hefty 141-month prison sentence handed down on February 16, 2017. The delay in charging Warnick raises questions about the pace of federal investigations, but authorities are now moving forward.
The January 9, 2016 robbery sent shockwaves through the Springettsbury Township community. While details of the robbery itself are sealed in court documents, investigators confirm Warnick’s crucial role in ensuring Bowman’s escape. The Springettsbury Township Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation spearheaded the investigation, piecing together evidence that ultimately led to today’s charges.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Chelsea Schinnour is prosecuting the case, which is being brought under the umbrella of the Violent Crime Reduction Partnership (VCRP). This district-wide initiative, led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, aims to aggressively combat violent crime across the Middle District of Pennsylvania by coordinating federal, state, and local law enforcement resources.
It’s important to remember that this Criminal Information represents allegations, not proof of guilt. Warnick, like all defendants in the American justice system, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. However, if convicted, he faces a potential sentence of up to twenty-five years behind bars, followed by a term of supervised release and a substantial fine.
Federal sentencing guidelines are complex, and the final sentence will be determined by the judge after careful consideration of numerous factors, including the severity of the crime, Warnick’s criminal history, and the need for both punishment and potential rehabilitation. The statutory maximum is not a guarantee of the ultimate outcome. This case serves as a reminder that even years after a crime is committed, justice can – and sometimes does – catch up.
