Zachary Dean Evans, 28, Sentenced for Firearm Possession in Christian County
A disturbing trend of individuals possessing firearms despite previous felony convictions continues to plague our community. In the latest example, Zachary Dean Evans, 28, of Christian County, was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm after having been convicted of multiple felony offenses.
According to court documents, on September 23, 2020, Evans possessed a pistol after having been previously convicted of multiple felony offenses. These felony offenses include fraudulent use of a credit card over $10,000, receiving stolen property over $500, receiving stolen property – firearm, second degree escape, first degree fleeing or evading police, theft by unlawful taking over $500, and second degree unlawful imprisonment.
The case was investigated by the ATF Paducah Satellite Office and the Hopkinsville Police Department, with the assistance of the Christian County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Leigh Ann Dycus, of the U.S. Attorney’s Paducah Branch Office, prosecuted the case.
The U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky, Acting Special Agent in Charge Robert Maynard of the ATF Louisville Field Division, and Chief Clayton Summers of the Hopkinsville Police Department made the announcement.
Evans’ sentence marks a significant victory in the fight against firearm possession by individuals with felony convictions. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of stricter gun control laws and increased penalties for those who choose to disregard them.
