A former emergency medical technician and volunteer firefighter from New Jersey has been sentenced to 135 months in prison for his role in a heinous online sex crime.
Zachary Motta, 24, of Iselin, New Jersey, was sentenced to 135 months in prison for enticing a child to produce sexually explicit images, announced U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito.
According to documents filed in the case and statements made in court, Motta communicated with a 12-year-old boy online and asked him to send a picture of himself nude. The boy complied, and Motta used this image for his own illicit purposes.
This disturbing crime occurred between October 2016 and an unspecified date. Motta’s actions were discovered, and he was investigated by the FBI and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
U.S. Attorney Carpenito credited special agents with the FBI and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office with the investigation leading to Motta’s sentencing.
In addition to his prison term, Judge Freda L. Wolfson sentenced Motta to five years of supervised release and ordered him to pay a $5,000 Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act assessment.
Motta’s defense counsel, Michael Policastro Esq., represented him in the case.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Danielle Alfonzo Walsman of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Newark.
Motta’s crimes have left the community in shock, and his sentencing serves as a reminder of the consequences of such heinous actions.
