Fentanyl Trafficker Sentenced to 96 Months
A McAlester man has been sentenced to 96 months imprisonment for his role in distributing fentanyl in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Zachery Scott Kerns, 30, was found guilty of distributing a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of the Schedule II controlled substance.
According to court documents, the crime occurred on or about December 4, 2014, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office, the District 18 Drug Task Force, and the Drug Enforcement Administration led the investigation into Kerns’ activities.
The Honorable James H. Payne, District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing. Assistant United States Attorneys Timothy Hammer and Shannon Henson represented the United States in the case.
Kerns will remain in custody pending transportation to the designated federal facility at which the nonparoleable sentence will be served. The sentence is a result of his conviction for violating Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(C), which prohibits the distribution of controlled substances.
