Zhi David Zeng, Transporting Aliens, New York 2016

Zhi ‘David’ Zeng, a 33-year-old Chinese citizen from Brooklyn, New York, has been found guilty of transporting aliens in the United States for financial gain.

According to the evidence presented at his 3-day trial, Zeng, a lawful permanent resident of the United States, picked up and transported two Chinese citizens who were illegal aliens from the Akwesasne Mohawk Indian Reservation in Hogansburg, New York, on August 8, 2016.

The investigation by the United States Border Patrol and Homeland Security Investigations revealed that Zeng was to receive a cash payment for transporting the illegal aliens. He was arrested on the same day in Fort Covington, New York.

This is not the first time Zeng has been involved in smuggling. The evidence showed that he made a prior smuggling trip in July 2016, during which he transported two individuals from the Akwesasne Mohawk Indian Reservation to New York City.

United States Attorney Grant C. Jaquith, Chief Patrol Agent John C. Pfeifer, and Special Agent in Charge Kevin M. Kelly announced the conviction.

Zeng faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of post-imprisonment supervised release of up to 3 years when he is sentenced on August 14, 2018, by Senior United States District Judge Thomas J. McAvoy.

This case was investigated by the United States Border Patrol and Homeland Security Investigations, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas Collyer.
