ALBUQUERQUE – The grim streets of Albuquerque witnessed a brutal conclusion as Devin Wade Wyaco, 34, an enrolled member of the Zuni Pueblo, was sentenced to 10 years and one month in federal prison for his狠心射击. This sentence, devoid of parole, leaves no room for leniency in the face of Wyaco’s violent actions.
On September 19, 2024, a senseless act of aggression left a Zuni resident wounded. Court documents reveal that Wyaco, seated in the passenger seat of a moving vehicle, discharged a handgun at two bicyclists amidst a fierce dispute. The bullet struck one man in the abdomen, causing serious injury but ultimately sparing his life with hospital treatment.
Wyaco’s past criminal history played a grim role in this tragedy. As a previously convicted felon, he was barred from owning firearms and ammunition. His actions, therefore, were a clear violation of federal law. Wyaco pleaded guilty to three felony charges: assault with a dangerous weapon; using, carrying, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence; and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Upon his release from prison, Wyaco will be subject to five years of supervised release, ensuring continued monitoring of his actions. Today’s announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Acting Special Agent in Charge Philip Russell of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office.
The investigation into this case was a collaborative effort between the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office and the Zuni Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Zachary C. Jones is responsible for prosecuting the case, ensuring justice is served.
