Local Man Sentenced to 97 Months for Racketeering
Barreto, who was convicted of Racketeering Influenced Corrupt Organization (RICO) Conspiracy, supplied cocaine to younger members of the gang and provided firearms to fellow gang members who used them to commit shootings and defend drug turf.
The defendant also conspired with other members to distribute over 15 kilograms of cocaine as part of the gang’s affairs.
This sentencing marks a significant milestone in the case, which has resulted in the conviction of 44 10th Street Gang members and associates.
An investigation led by the New York State Police, the Buffalo Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation uncovered the gang’s activities, which spanned over a decade.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph M. Tripi praised the efforts of the investigative agencies, stating that their work brought an end to the gang’s reign of terror.
The 10th Street Gang’s involvement in racketeering activity has left a lasting impact on the community, and this sentencing serves as a reminder of the consequences of such crimes.
As the city works towards recovery, law enforcement agencies continue to crack down on organized crime, bringing hope to those affected by the gang’s activities.
