A 54-year-old woman from Frederick, Maryland has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for her role in a brazen scheme to embezzle over $151,000 from her employer.

Diane Jensen, who served as the executive assistant to the chief executive officer (CEO) of a company in Montgomery County, Maryland, was found guilty of wire fraud and ordered to pay restitution of $151,026.36.

The scheme, which lasted from 2008 to 2012, involved Jensen using her employer’s American Express card to make personal purchases, including expensive items and Green Dot Moneypaks. She then obtained reimbursement for these purchases by claiming they were legitimate business expenses.

Jensen also admitted to stealing tens of thousands of dollars from one of the CEO’s bank accounts, to which she had access.

According to court documents, Jensen used her position of trust to embezzle the funds, often using her employer’s signature stamp to authorize the expenditures.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the FBI for their work in the investigation and thanked Assistant U.S. Attorneys Thomas P. Windom and David I. Salem for their prosecution of the case.

Jensen’s sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Peter J. Messitte, who also entered an order requiring Jensen to forfeit the stolen funds and pay restitution to her employer.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting company assets and the devastating consequences of embezzlement.
