Mahir Chaudhry, Child Pornography Distribution, New Jersey 2024

Newark, N.J. – A chilling case of sexual exploitation has emerged in Middlesex County as 21-year-old Mahir Chaudhry faces serious charges for transferring obscene material to a minor. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Chaudhry is alleged to have sent at least six graphic images to a minor victim under the age of 16 between March and May 2023. The complaint filed against him charges one count of transferring obscene material to a minor.

Chaudhry appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge André M. Espinosa on August 28, 2025, where he was detained pending bail approval. The severity of the charge carries a maximum potential penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Acting U.S. Attorney and Special Attorney Alina Habba emphasized that this arrest is part of the ongoing efforts to protect New Jersey’s youth from predators.

“Chaudhry’s actions are a stark reminder that there are no safe havens for those who exploit children,” said SAC Stefanie Roddy of the FBI Newark. “The FBI will continue to work tirelessly to apprehend such individuals.”

Habba also credited the Child Exploitation Operational Unit of the FBI, as well as local and international partners, for their role in bringing this case to light. This investigation is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation.

The defense counsel for Chaudhry, Timothy Donahue, Esq., has been appointed to represent the defendant, who remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
