Grimy Times has learned that Janna Grier, a 36-year-old former correctional officer from Horton, Kansas, pleaded guilty to engaging in a bribery and contraband smuggling scheme at the Leavenworth Detention Center.
According to court documents, Grier used her position to smuggle contraband into the prison and solicited other prison officials to do the same in exchange for bribes.
Grier pleaded guilty on January 25 to conspiracy to offer bribes and provide contraband to inmates of a federal prison.
She faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 28.
The investigation into Grier’s activities was conducted by the FBI and the Department of Justice Office of Inspector General (DOJ-OIG).
Grier’s case is part of the Justice Department’s ongoing efforts to combat prison corruption.
In related news, two other former Leavenworth officials, Cheyonte Harris, Jaqueline Sifuentes, and Jeane Arnette, are also facing similar charges.
In a separate but related case, three former North Carolina prison officials, Ollie Rose, III, Kenneth Farr, and Jeremy Chambers, were recently convicted of smuggling contraband and accepting bribes.
