ROANOKE, VIRGINIA – A Wytheville man has been convicted of his role in a massive methamphetamine operation that has left a trail of destruction throughout Southwest Virginia.
Timothy Scott Anderson, 50, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to distribute over 500 grams of a mixture containing methamphetamine, a charge that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum statutory sentence of life in prison.
According to court documents, Anderson was part of a larger conspiracy that distributed methamphetamine throughout the Western District of Virginia. The investigation, which involved the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Virginia State Police, the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office, the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshals Service, uncovered a web of deceit and corruption that stretched far and wide.
“The scourge of methamphetamine abuse continues to ravage communities throughout Southwest Virginia,” said United States Attorney John P. Fishwick Jr. “We will continue to be vigilant in working with our partners in law enforcement to combat this growing threat.”
Anderson’s guilty plea brings to light the devastating impact of methamphetamine on our communities. The drug has been linked to numerous overdoses, violent crimes and property crimes, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
At sentencing, Anderson will face a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison, a sentence that reflects the severity of the crime and the harm it has caused to countless individuals and families.
Assistant United States Attorney Andrew Bassford prosecuted the case, which serves as a reminder of the importance of holding accountable those who engage in illegal activity and putting a stop to the flow of illicit substances into our communities.
The case is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies working together to combat the scourge of methamphetamine and bring those responsible to justice.
