David Alan Hunt, Child Pornography Possession, West Virginia 2012

David Alan Hunt, a 33-year-old resident of Raleigh County, West Virginia, has been sentenced to serve four years in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release for his heinous crime of possessing child pornography. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Booth Goodwin, who emphasized the severity of the offense.

Hunt’s conviction stems from an incident on March 23, 2012, when law enforcement discovered approximately 60 images of child pornography on his computer and a computer disc at his home in Sophia. The disturbing content included sexually explicit images of prepubescent minors and minors engaged in sexual acts. Hunt also admitted to receiving and sharing child pornography through a file-sharing network that facilitated the global exchange of such material.

U.S. Attorney Goodwin declared, ‘The exploitation of innocent children is a heinous crime, and we will prosecute individuals like Mr. Hunt to the fullest extent of the law.’ The investigation was led by the West Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, with Assistant United States Attorney Lisa Johnston handling the prosecution.

This case is part of U.S. Attorney Goodwin’s ongoing initiative against child sexual exploitation and abuse in the Southern District of West Virginia, demonstrating a commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of society.

Hunt’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who engage in this despicable form of criminal activity.
