Shawn Lamont McClain, Heroin Distribution, West Virginia 2014

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – In a grim turn of justice, Shawn Lamont McClain, 37, from Cleveland, Ohio, has been sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for the distribution of heroin laced with the deadly fentanyl. The sentence was announced by United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II.

McClain stood before Senior U.S. District Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr., who handed down a 95-month term today. This sentence will run consecutively to a previous 120-month sentence imposed for a 2014 heroin trafficking conviction by U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey, totaling 215 months of imprisonment.

The sentencing hearing highlighted the dangerous nature of McClain’s activities, which resulted in numerous overdoses in the Ohio Valley region. Transactions took place in public venues such as Wheeling Island and near Madison Elementary School, further emphasizing the threat posed by the illegal substances.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Bernard and U.S. Attorney Ihlenfeld prosecuted the case for the government. The investigation was led by the Ohio Valley Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative dedicated to curbing drug-related crime.

McClain’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the deadly consequences associated with the distribution of illicit drugs in our communities. His actions not only endangered countless lives but also disrupted the fabric of local neighborhoods.
