Davenport Man Sentenced for Child Pornography

A 49-year-old Davenport man has been sentenced to 90 months in prison for his role in a child pornography case. Robert Lee Burton was found guilty of possessing images and videos of child pornography at his Davenport residence.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa, a search of Burton’s home in January 2012 uncovered multiple hard drives, DVDs, thumb drives, and computers containing child pornography. The devices were seized as part of an investigation led by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the Davenport Police Department, and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.

Burton pleaded guilty to the charges on July 1, 2014, and will be required to register as a sex offender. He will serve five years of supervised release following his imprisonment and pay $100 towards the Crime Victims Fund.

The restitution ordered for one of the victims involved in the case totals $2,800. Burton’s sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Stephanie M. Rose on December 19, 2014.

As part of the Project Safe Child initiative, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuted the case. This initiative aims to combat child exploitation and abuse.

Child exploitation cases like this one serve as a reminder of the importance of continued vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies to protect vulnerable members of society.

The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and its local partners will continue to work together to identify and prosecute individuals involved in child exploitation.
