24 Years for Navajo Nation Man’s Child Abuse

A Navajo Nation man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for the egregious crime of sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy in Indian Country.

Jeremiah Elijah Jim, 31, of Teec Nos Pos, Arizona, was found guilty of aggravated sexual abuse of a minor, an act that took place on June 3, 2019, in Shiprock, New Mexico, on the Navajo Nation.

According to court documents, Jim was accompanied by co-defendant Bryan Bull, also an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation. Both men allegedly threatened the victim with serious bodily injury and carried out the heinous act against him. Bull has since pleaded guilty and is currently in custody awaiting sentencing.

The abuse was uncovered by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, in collaboration with the Navajo Nation Police Department. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico led the prosecution of the case.

The devastating impact of child abuse on victims cannot be overstated. The effects can last a lifetime and extend far beyond the immediate traumatic event.

Jim will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life and will serve seven years of supervised release upon his release from prison.

We urge anyone who may be a victim of child abuse to seek help immediately. Support services are available and can be accessed through the National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-422-4453.
