GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: A Sisseton, South Dakota native is facing life imprisonment after being indicted for a shocking act of sexual abuse and obstruction of justice.
Brendon Javon Jacob Rodlund, 29, has been charged by a federal grand jury with sexual abuse of a minor and obstruction of justice. The charges stem from an incident on or about April 30, 2016, where Rodlund is alleged to have engaged in a sexual act with the victim while she was physically incapable of refusing.
The indictment also accuses Rodlund of providing false testimony regarding the incident in tribal court. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for South Dakota, Rodlund appeared before Magistrate Judge William Gerdes on May 13, 2019, and entered a not guilty plea.
Should Rodlund be found guilty on all counts, he faces up to life imprisonment and a fine of $250,000. Additionally, he may be sentenced to a mandatory minimum term of five years supervised release, with a special assessment of $100 for the victim/witness fund and $5,000 to the domestic trafficking fund.
The investigation is being led by the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Sioux Tribe’s Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri is handling the prosecution of this case.
Rodlund has been remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, and a trial date has yet to be scheduled. As it stands, Rodlund is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
