A Spanish man has plead guilty to illegally reentering the country, according to a recent court ruling.
José Angel Hidalgo-Torres, a 20-year-old man from Spain, was found in Calais, Maine, on July 18, 2025, shortly after entering the United States illegally.
Hidalgo-Torres was previously removed from the country in May 2024. He now faces up to two years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
The U.S. Border Patrol investigated the case and Hidalgo-Torres will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigative report by the U.S. Probation Office.
A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that aims to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
Hidalgo-Torres’ guilty plea comes as part of Operation Take Back America’s efforts to streamline resources and efforts from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
