Andre Muller, Violent Attempted Theft of Drugs, Maine 2016

BANGOR, Maine: A shocking case of violent attempted theft of drugs has come to an end with two New York men behind bars. Andre Muller, 54, and Robert Holland, 45, were sentenced to prison for their roles in a violent home invasion in Rangeley in 2016.

According to evidence presented during the trial, Muller, Holland, and four coconspirators developed a plan to steal controlled substances from a Rangeley residence. On July 26, 2016, Muller traveled from New York City with Hector Munoz, 57, of Florida and one other coconspirator, meeting up with Holland and a fifth man at a location just outside Rangeley.

On July 28, 2016, two of the coconspirators, including Munoz, entered the Rangeley residence armed with knives with the intent to take the controlled substances. During the commission of the robbery, the robbery’s intended target shot and killed the second coconspirator. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is not identifying that conspirator because they were not charged.

Muller and Holland were initially convicted following a five-day jury trial that concluded August 10, 2022. Judge Nancy Torresen granted a motion for a new trial, however, based on evidence of juror prejudgment, and the second trial was held in November 2023.

Muller, 54, was sentenced to 200 months in prison, and Holland, 45, was sentenced to 188 months in prison. Both men were also sentenced to three years of supervised release following their terms of imprisonment.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Maine State Police, the Rangeley Police Department, the U.S. Border Patrol, and the Carrabassett Valley Police Department, with assistance provided by the Maine Office of the Attorney General.

Meanwhile, Hector Munoz, 57, pleaded guilty to conspiring to interfere with commerce by robbery on January 15, 2020, and was sentenced to time served on January 12, 2024.
