Buffalo Man Sentenced for Lying to Grand Jury

In a shocking turn of events, Michael Acoff, a 24-year-old Buffalo resident, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for perjury in connection with the Bailey Boys investigation.

Acoff was convicted of lying to the federal grand jury about his knowledge of the January 19, 2011 murder of Harold McCain.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Anthony M. Bruce, Acoff told the grand jury that he received a telephone call from McCain’s alleged killer following the murder, asking him to pick him up. However, Acoff had admitted to never receiving such a call and had actually learned the details of the murder from a third party.

The Bailey Boys Gang member, Tyrone Brown, was indicted, along with six other members and associates, on August 1, 2012, for the alleged murder of Harold McCain.

The sentencing is the result of an ongoing investigation by the United States Attorney’s Office, in close cooperation with the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, the Buffalo Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Amherst Police Department.

Acoff’s sentencing is a significant blow to the Bailey Boys gang, which has been the subject of a lengthy investigation.

The investigation has been ongoing since 2012, with multiple arrests and convictions.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. said, ‘The sentence imposed today serves as a reminder that lying to a grand jury will not be tolerated.’
