Heroin Dealer Gets 2 Years in Prison
A West Haven man has been sentenced to 2 years in prison for his role in a heroin trafficking ring, federal prosecutors announced Friday.
Luis Robles, 27, was sentenced to 24 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for his part in the heroin trafficking organization, which was targeted by the DEA’s New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad.
According to court documents and statements made in court, the DEA’s investigation revealed that members of the organization regularly purchased bulk quantities of heroin from suppliers located in the Bronx, New York, and sold the heroin through a network of redistributors, including Robles, on the streets of New Haven.
The investigation, which included court-authorized wiretaps, controlled purchases of narcotics and physical and video surveillance, resulted in federal charges against 23 individuals.
Robles pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin on August 21, 2017.
The DEA’s New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad includes officers from the Bristol, Greenwich, Hamden, Milford, New Haven, Shelton, Vernon and Wilton Police Departments. The New Haven, East Haven and West Haven Police Departments, together with the U.S. Coast Guard, provided valuable assistance to the investigation.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick F. Caruso, who praised the collaborative effort that led to the conviction.
The investigation and prosecution of the heroin trafficking ring serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of heroin addiction and the critical role that law enforcement plays in keeping our communities safe.
Robles’ sentence is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the investigators and prosecutors who brought this case to justice.
