Waterloo, Iowa — Jaime Rodriguez-Andres, a 41-year-old Mexican citizen known also as Alejandro Govea-Salvador, was sentenced to two years in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States and using fraudulent identification documents. Rodriguez-Andres pleaded guilty on October 10, 2014, to one count of illegal reentry by an aggravated felon, one count of unlawful use of identification documents, and one count of making a false claim to United States citizenship.

The defendant admitted returning to the U.S. without permission after being deported in 2005. Rodriguez-Andres was previously convicted for forgery and identity theft in Iowa and removed from the country again in 2009. He used someone else’s Social Security card to obtain employment in Waterloo, falsely claiming citizenship on his job application.

Rodriguez-Andres’ illegal return was uncovered in July 2014 following an arrest for domestic abuse assault in Waterloo. United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade sentenced him to 24 months’ imprisonment and a special assessment of $300, with a three-year supervised release term following his prison sentence.

The defendant is currently being held by the U.S. Marshal’s Service until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel C. Tvedt and investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations.
