JACKSONVILLE, FL – Kency Aime, a 29-year-old resident of Biscayne Park, has entered a guilty plea for one count of access device (debit card) fraud and nine counts of identity theft. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 55 years in federal prison, and a sentencing date is yet to be scheduled.
On May 7, 2014, Aime was pulled over by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper for speeding on I-75 in Hamilton County. During the traffic stop, law enforcement detected a strong odor of marijuana, leading to Aime’s admission of recent use. A search of his vehicle revealed 34 Mastercard and Visa debit cards, as well as 296 sets of Personal Identifying Information (PII) and two computers with cell phones.
Following federal search warrants, authorities uncovered an additional 103 sets of PII on the devices. Investigation revealed that the debit cards were obtained using stolen PII or fraudulently associated with fraudulent tax activity.
This case has been a collaborative effort between the United States Secret Service North Florida High Tech Crime Task Force, the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation, and the Florida Highway Patrol. Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Frein is handling the prosecution.
Aime’s arrest highlights the ongoing battle against identity theft and cybercrime in Florida, as law enforcement continues to crack down on those who exploit personal information for fraudulent gains.
