SEATTLE – A member of a violent bank robbery ring has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for his involvement in a series of take-over style heists across the United States, announced U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan.
Anthony V. Mosley, 46, from Tacoma, Washington, joined forces with six other defendants in a sophisticated operation that targeted banks in Washington, Ohio, and Michigan. The ring, described by U.S. District Judge Richard A. Jones as ‘highly sophisticated… operating with military precision,’ utilized rental cars in the names of innocent associates and provided a safe haven for LA-based gang members.
Mosley’s role was multifaceted; he served as both getaway driver and member of the robbery team, intimidating tellers and demanding cash. His involvement began just six weeks after being released from federal prison for violating supervised release conditions following a previous bank robbery conviction.
U.S. Attorney Durkan emphasized the impact on victims, stating, ‘The robberies victimized bank tellers and customers – people who are forever changed just because they stood in the way of the defendant and his gang.’ She commended the FBI and the South Sound Gang Task Force for their innovative work in identifying and arresting the ring.
The case records detail a series of takeover-style robberies, including incidents at Wells Fargo and U.S. Bank branches in Tacoma, Lakewood, and Kirkland. The gang also admitted to participating in robberies in Michigan and Ohio. The other defendants, all from Los Angeles or Hollywood, California, have entered guilty pleas and are awaiting sentencing.
The South Sound Gang Task Force arrested five of the gang members while they were preparing to flee to Los Angeles on a Greyhound bus. The task force, a collaboration between FBI Seattle Division, local police departments, Washington State Patrol, and ATF, played a crucial role in the investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Michael Dion and Kate Crisham are prosecuting the case.
