BEAUMONT, TX – A dark corner of the internet reached into a Port Neches home, and now Jeremiah Paul Selman, 34, is facing the consequences. Selman pleaded guilty today to federal charges of possessing child pornography, a sickening trove of images discovered during a raid on his residence.
According to court documents, federal officials descended on Selman’s Port Neches home on October 26, 2011, executing a search warrant. The digital evidence seized revealed a horrifying collection: over 600 images depicting the sexual exploitation of children. Disturbingly, some of the material featured prepubescent children under the age of 12 engaged in explicit acts.
The investigation, which led to a federal grand jury indictment on January 10, 2013, has been a slow burn, but the guilty plea finally delivered today brings a measure of accountability. U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced the plea, highlighting the relentless pursuit of those who prey on the most vulnerable.
This case is part of “Project Safe Childhood,” a nationwide Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006. The program aims to dismantle networks of child sexual abuse and exploitation, coordinating federal, state, and local resources to apprehend predators and rescue victims. Information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
Jeremiah Paul Selman now faces up to 10 years in federal prison. While a sentencing date hasn’t been set, the gravity of his crimes suggests a substantial term behind bars is likely. The investigation was spearheaded by Homeland Security Investigations and the Beaumont Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher T. Tortorice is prosecuting the case, ensuring that Selman will answer for his depraved actions. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the sentencing as it is scheduled, holding those who harm children accountable for their crimes. This isn’t just a legal matter; it’s a moral failing, and the repercussions must be severe.”
