Walid Hanna Charged with Trafficking in Counterfeit Goods, Parma OH…

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: A federal grand jury in Cleveland has charged Parma, Ohio resident Walid Hanna, 27, with trafficking in counterfeit goods worth an estimated $107,808. The indictment alleges that on or about June 16, 2011, Hanna intentionally trafficked and attempted to traffic counterfeit apparel, including Gucci, Ralph Lauren, UGG, New Era, and North Face products.

The merchandise in question bore counterfeit marks that were identical to those used on genuine goods, according to the charges. These included sweatshirts, belts, shoes, polo shirts, fleece jackets, caps, boots, sports caps, jackets, and various other items with counterfeit logos, labels, hang tags, patches, stickers, emblems, holograms, and packaging.

The indictment further claims that the use of these counterfeit marks was likely to cause confusion, mistake, or deceive. If convicted, Hanna could face significant penalties as his sentence will be determined by the court after a review of unique factors in this case, including any prior criminal record.

This case is a result of an investigation led by the Cleveland Office of the Department of Homeland Security, Office Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert W. Kern will handle the prosecution on behalf of the United States.

It’s important to note that an indictment is merely a charge and does not constitute evidence of guilt. Hanna is entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The gritty world of counterfeit goods continues to evolve, with law enforcement agencies working tirelessly to combat the illegal trade. The case against Walid Hanna underscores the ongoing efforts to protect consumers from purchasing fake merchandise and uphold the integrity of legitimate brands.
