WEST PALM BEACH – Gary Goldberg, a 49-year-old resident of Palm Beach County, has been handed a 156-month prison sentence by U.S. District Judge Kenneth A. Marra for enticing a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activities. The charge stems from Goldberg’s actions that involved paying two teenagers, aged 17 and 15, to allow him to take explicit photographs of them.
According to court documents, Goldberg formed a relationship with the teens, coercing them into participating in illegal acts for monetary compensation. This case is a significant victory under Project Safe Childhood, a federal initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. Launched by the Department of Justice in 2006, Project Safe Childhood has been instrumental in identifying and rescuing victims while prosecuting those who exploit children online.
United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Wifredo A. Ferrer, commended the collaborative efforts of the FBI, Boca Raton Police Department, and various task forces that led to Goldberg’s conviction. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lothrop Morris is handling the prosecution of this case.
The sentence handed down by Judge Marra reflects the severity of the crime and serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who prey on minors. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, the public can visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
