BOSTON – The grimy details of a Plymouth man’s descent into the depths of child pornography have come to light as 25-year-old Brendan R. Kessler pleaded guilty to distributing and possessing explicit material involving minors.
In a court hearing that sent shockwaves through the community, Kessler admitted his involvement in the sinister trade. Scheduled for June 10, 2015, his sentencing could see him locked away for up to 20 years, with a minimum of five years mandatory imprisonment.
The feds struck gold on September 2, 2014, when they executed a search warrant at Kessler’s residence in Plymouth. They found more than just digital evidence; agents uncovered a trove of explosives, firearms, and chilling paraphernalia that painted a picture of a man with violent intentions.
“Federal agents seized a computer and various storage devices filled with explicit images and videos, alongside 14 firearms and enough ammunition to make any criminal squirm,” said U.S. Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz. “This case is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by those who exploit children.”
The plea agreement between Kessler and the government suggests a sentence of at least 63 months. Actual sentences for federal child pornography offenses are typically less than the maximum penalties, but the judge will ultimately determine the fate of this predator.
Project Safe Childhood, the DOJ’s nationwide initiative to protect children from exploitation, played a crucial role in Kessler’s prosecution. For those with information or concerns about such crimes, the Department of Justice is urging the public to contact 617-748-3274.
