Darrell Rhett Faces Life Sentence for Cocaine Possession

PITTSBURGH – Darrell Rhett, a 51-year-old resident of Yonkers, New York, is facing a life sentence after being indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh for violating federal narcotic laws. United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced the charges today.

The one-count indictment, returned on March 27, 2013, accuses Rhett of possessing with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine in the Western District of Pennsylvania on October 3, 2012. The law mandates a minimum sentence of five years and up to life imprisonment, alongside a fine of $5,000,000.

Assistant United States Attorney Eric S. Rosen is handling the prosecution for the government. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police conducted the investigation that led to Rhett’s indictment.

An indictment is merely an accusation, and Rhett is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Rhett’s case underscores the ongoing efforts by federal authorities to crack down on drug trafficking in the region. The severity of his charges reflects the gravity of the offense and the potential impact on public safety.
