SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A gritty five-person crew from Springfield is facing a heavy federal charge sheet for their alleged roles in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy and the illegal possession of firearms.
Tammy Dickinson, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, dropped the charges on Monday, with Randy G. Dabney, 53; James O. Mitchell, 45; Christopher R. Mays, 35; Michael J. Boehm, 22; and Kayla A. Morrill, 40, all hitting the legal block for their respective roles.
According to the DOJ, the indicted crew is accused of conspiring to distribute meth in Greene and Webster counties from November 2015 to September 2016. Dabney faces an arsenal of charges, including three counts of intent to distribute meth and possession of multiple firearms and a sawed-off rifle.
Mitchell and Morrill are charged together for aiding and abetting the distribution of meth. Mitchell also stands accused of distributing meth, possessing firearms for drug-trafficking purposes, and being a felon in possession of additional firearms. Mays is charged with intent to distribute meth, possessing a firearm to further a drug conspiracy, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Boehm’s charges include intent to distribute meth, possessing firearms to facilitate drug trafficking, and being a felon in possession of multiple firearms. His arsenal included semi-automatic rifles and handguns.
Dickinson emphasized that these are merely accusations, with guilt or innocence to be decided by a federal trial jury. The case is prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jody M. Larison and Assistant U.S. Attorney Nhan D. Nguyen, and investigated by the DEA, Springfield PD, COMET, and Webster County Sheriff’s Office.
