BERNARD M. DOSPOY, 66, of Northern Cambria, Pa., has pleaded guilty to converting government funds, according to Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song.
Dospoy admitted to receiving and converting $207,592 from June 2005 to October 2015, falsely claiming Social Security Administration benefits he was not entitled to. The scam involved 176 separate payments, officials say.
The defendant has agreed to pay full restitution of $207,592 as part of a Civil Settlement Agreement with the U.S. government. Dospoy’s sentencing is scheduled for August 3, 2017, before United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson.
Under federal law, Dospoy faces a maximum sentence of ten years in prison and a fine of $250,000. The actual sentence will depend on the severity of the offense and any prior criminal history.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Valkovci, Jr., is handling the prosecution for the government, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Colin J. Callahan represents the Affirmative Civil Enforcement Section of the United States Attorney’s Office in this case.
The investigation that led to Dospoy’s prosecution was conducted by the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General.
