Va. Man Jailed for Cyber Stalking in Neb.

Richard Killebrew, a 37-year-old Virginia man, has been handed down a 41-month prison term for cyber stalking. The sentence, imposed by U.S. District Court Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr., follows a thorough investigation that led to Killebrew’s conviction.

Killebrew was indicted for using his computer and cell phone to send death threats to victims across the nation. His offenses began in March 2016, when he sent a chilling text message containing death threats to a victim in Nebraska. Over the next several months, Killebrew continued his reign of terror by posting numerous death threats on an internet blog, targeting individuals in Nebraska and beyond.

Law enforcement agencies confirmed that Killebrew had initiated these threats from Virginia. Following his arrest at his home in Newport News, he was transported to Nebraska to face justice. Killebrew’s 41-month sentence includes no possibility of parole in the federal system, followed by a supervised release term of three years upon his release from prison.

The investigation into Killebrew’s cyber stalking crimes was jointly conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Omaha Police Department. The case serves as a stark reminder of the reach and severity of cybercrimes, even when perpetrators are miles away from their victims.

United States Attorney Robert C. Stuart announced the sentencing, emphasizing that such crimes will not be tolerated and will be pursued with vigor by federal law enforcement agencies.

This case underscores the ongoing threat posed by cybercriminals and the critical role played by collaborative efforts between local and federal law enforcement in combating these evolving threats.
