Erin Mal Killey, Child Pornography Production, Michigan 2023

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN — Erin Mal Killey, 30, of Union City, was sentenced today to thirty years in federal prison for producing child pornography, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Andrew Birge.

Birge emphasized the importance of protecting children from sexual exploitation, noting that swift and certain punishment is essential for predators like Killey.

U.S. District Judge Paul L. Maloney commented on the compelling victim impact statements, calling them a representation of the devastation suffered by child exploitation victims. Following his prison term, Killey will face ten years of supervised release and be required to register as a sexual offender.

Killey pleaded guilty to production of child pornography in 2016 after being caught taking sexually explicit photographs of a seven-year-old girl under his care and distributing them to an undercover agent. He also possessed other images from a child pornography collection.

David P. Gelios, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Division, highlighted that sexual exploitation often involves adults trusted by children, emphasizing the dedication of the FBI to investigating and prosecuting such predators.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative aimed at protecting children from exploitation. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, county prosecutor’s offices, and various law enforcement agencies are collaborating to locate, apprehend, and prosecute child exploiters.
