Las Cruces Man Pleads Guilty to Methamphetamine Trafficking

ALBUQUERQUE – Jose Angel Sanchez, 35, of Las Cruces, N.M., has entered a guilty plea in federal court for methamphetamine trafficking. The grim charges stem from an arrest on December 2, 2016, where law enforcement seized approximately 229.5 grams of the drug with intent to distribute.

The defendant was already under supervised release following a previous federal drug trafficking conviction when he committed this offense. Sanchez’s brazen behavior landed him in hot water once more, as he admitted possessing over 50 grams of meth with distribution intentions during his arraignment today.

Sanchez’s sentence is already sealed by a plea agreement; ten years behind bars are awaiting the defendant, followed by a term of supervised release to be determined by the court. The defendant remains in custody, pending a sentencing hearing that has yet to be scheduled.

The FBI Las Cruces office led the investigation on this case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah M. Davenport is handling the prosecution from the U.S. Attorney’s Las Cruces Branch Office. Sanchez’s guilty plea marks a significant victory for federal law enforcement in their relentless pursuit of drug traffickers.

This incident underscores the severe consequences faced by those who continue to traffic dangerous substances like methamphetamine, even while under supervision. The justice system remains unwavering in its commitment to protect communities from such criminals.
