Bangor, Maine – Jonathan Gardiner, a 31-year-old Glenburn resident, has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Gardiner admitted to unlawful possession after law enforcement recovered a 12-gauge shotgun and a 9-mm pistol at his residence.
According to court records, the firearms were found on November 13, 2014. Gardiner is barred from possessing firearms due to previous felony convictions for burglary, aggravated assault, theft by unlawful use of property, and drug trafficking.
The U.S. District Court judge now faces the daunting task of sentencing Gardiner. If deemed an armed career criminal, Gardiner could be looking at a life sentence, five years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. The final sentence will depend on the presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
Investigation into Gardiner’s illegal firearms was a collaborative effort between the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Maine State Police Crime Laboratory.
