Marcus Bernard Harris, Methamphetamine Trafficking, New Mexico 2024

ALBUQUERQUE – A 22-year-old Michigan man faces a 20-year federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to transporting over 21 pounds of methamphetamine through New Mexico. Marcus Bernard Harris, from Detroit, entered his plea in an Albuquerque courtroom, where he confessed to hiding the drugs inside his luggage during a Greyhound bus ride.

Harris and two codefendants were nabbed on December 28, 2016, when law enforcement seized 9.8 kilograms of meth at the Greyhound Bus Station. The meth was reportedly concealed in various bundles within their luggage.

The trio, including Lewayne Deray Jennings, 28, from Southfield, and Jerrell Leveine Whitman-Crutcher, II, 31, of Warren, were indicted on charges of conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute on January 24, 2017. Harris’ plea agreement came after an investigation led by the DEA and New Mexico State Police.

Today’s guilty plea covers Harris’ role in the methamphetamine distribution scheme, but his codefendants remain in court with not guilty pleas. The case’s gravity is underscored by the potential prison term Harris faces upon sentencing, which has not yet been scheduled.

Jennings and Whitman-Crutcher are currently awaiting their own legal proceedings. As always, all charges against defendants are mere accusations until proven otherwise.

This drug trafficking ring was dismantled thanks to the collaborative efforts of DEA Albuquerque office and New Mexico State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney David M. Walsh is handling the prosecution of Harris’ case.
