PHILADELPHIA — Norman Ridgeway, 27, of Croydon, Pennsylvania, was today sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for producing child pornography with a 3-year-old child. His actions also included the distribution of that material over the internet and possession of nearly 2,200 images and videos of child pornography.
Ridgeway pleaded guilty on February 9, 2017, to counts one through three of an indictment charging him with production of child pornography, transportation of child pornography, and possession of child pornography. During his attempted arrest, Ridgeway fled in a vehicle, destroying additional evidence in the process.
While at the Federal Detention Center, Ridgeway attempted to obstruct justice by ordering associates to destroy further evidence. He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Eduardo C. Robreno to a 30-year term of incarceration, 20 years of supervised release, a $2,000 fine, and a special assessment of $300.
‘The crimes this defendant committed are an abomination,’ said Acting United States Attorney Louis D. Lappen. ‘We remain dedicated to protecting the vulnerable members of our community from exploitation.’
This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The investigation was led by the FBI and the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, with assistance from several local police departments.
Assistant United States Attorney James Petkun prosecuted the case.
