Crime reporter’s grimy scoop: Kristopher Michael Williams, a 33-year-old Moss Point resident, was sentenced yesterday to a staggering 120 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and an additional 151 months for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The sentences will run concurrently.
The grim tally includes a $7,500 fine and a subsequent five years of supervised release once Williams’ sentence is completed. According to U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst and Special Agent in Charge Dana Nichols of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the state’s federal court system has once again dealt a severe blow to the illegal arms and drugs trade.
Williams’ criminal history dates back to 2009, when he was convicted of armed robbery in Jackson County. In a dramatic turn of events on November 17, 2017, Moss Point police officers made a seizure that would ultimately lead to Williams’ conviction. During a traffic stop, they found marijuana and a .44 caliber pistol in his vehicle.
The ATF wouldn’t be deterred by this initial setback. In 2018, the agency, alongside the South Mississippi Metro Enforcement Team, conducted an undercover investigation. They purchased marijuana, methamphetamine, and another firearm from Williams. The total amount of methamphetamine sold was a disturbing 54.91 grams, or what is commonly known as ‘Ice’.
This case was meticulously investigated by the South Mississippi Metro Enforcement Team and the ATF, with Assistant United States Attorney Annette Williams leading the prosecution. Senior U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola, Jr., overseeing the sentencing, ensured that justice would be served for this criminal’s heinous activities on the streets of Moss Point.
Williams’ sentence is a stark reminder of the government’s commitment to cracking down on individuals who profit from the illegal drug trade and firearm sales. His fate serves as a cautionary tale for those who choose the dark path of crime in the Gulfport area.
