Antwine Chamberlain-Fields, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN – In a stunning move against gun violence, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Michigan announced that Antwine Chamberlain-Fields has been detained by federal court after being charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The charges come as part of a broader crackdown on illegal firearms in the Grand Rapids area.

Chamberlain-Fields faces up to ten years in prison if convicted, following his arrest by Grand Rapids Police on July 22, 2020, when they discovered multiple rounds of ammunition and a loaded .45 caliber handgun concealed in his vehicle.

In denying Chamberlain-Field’s request for bond, Magistrate Judge Ray Kent cited the escalating threat posed by illegal weapons in the district. The judge pointed out that an address associated with the defendant was the site of a recent drive-by shooting that left a teenage girl injured.

“In a city reeling from a surge in shootings and injuries, this arrest is a testament to the relentless efforts of the Project Safe Neighborhoods Task Force and the Grand Rapids Police Department to combat gun crime,” said U.S. Attorney Andrew Birge.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative has been instrumental in identifying and prosecuting individuals responsible for spikes in violent crime across Michigan, including the recent arrests in Kalamazoo where two men were found with loaded firearms and are facing serious federal charges.

While Chamberlain-Fields maintains his innocence until proven guilty, the case underscores the importance of community partnerships and targeted law enforcement strategies in the fight against gun violence. The public is reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
