ST. PAUL, MINN. — In a resounding defeat for pedophiles, Brandon James Jotblad, 29, of St. Paul, was yesterday sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for the possession of child pornography by Judge Eric C. Tostrud at the U.S. District Court in St. Paul.
United States Attorney Erica H. MacDonald emphasized the gravity of Jotblad’s crime, stating, ‘Downloading sexually explicit images or videos involving children is not victimless. These are real children who are re-victimized with each download and share.’
Jotblad had previously been on probation for a felony conviction in Ramsey County for possession of child pornography when he was caught with video files depicting a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct on July 30, 2019.
The sentence comes as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative to combat the rise in child sexual exploitation. The FBI, St. Paul Police Department, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigated the case with assistance from the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office and the Anoka County Attorney’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander D. Chiquoine prosecuted the case against Jotblad, who was also sentenced to 15 years of supervised release upon his release from prison.
