Campos Caught with Meth, Guns at KC Casino

KANSAS CITY, MO – Dominick A. Campos, 40, of Kansas City, Missouri, is facing federal charges after a significant drug and weapons bust at the Argosy Casino. Law enforcement discovered a veritable arsenal and a substantial quantity of narcotics stashed inside his vehicle on Tuesday, September 8th, leading to his arrest and a two-count federal complaint filed Wednesday.

According to the complaint, Campos is charged with one count of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and one count of possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking. The investigation, which has been ongoing in the Kansas City metro area, identified Campos as a key player in local drug sales. The arrest at the casino wasn’t a chance encounter; it was a calculated move by a multi-agency task force.

The search of Campos’s vehicle yielded a disturbing inventory. Agents recovered a Zastava Serbian AK-47-style 7.62x39mm rifle, a Hi-Point .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun, and a staggering 4.5 kilograms of methamphetamine. But the haul didn’t stop there: also seized were approximately 3.7 kilograms of marijuana, 276 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, 294 1100mg THC cartridges of LA Kush, 385 grams of suspected marijuana wax, 65 500mg THC edibles, 735 suspected acetaminophen/hydrocodone pills, 52 unknown pills, and $40,240 in cash. Two notebooks detailing suspected drug transactions were also recovered, along with associated drug paraphernalia.

Campos allegedly confessed to selling roughly one kilogram of methamphetamine *per week* since April 2020. That’s a consistent, high-volume operation indicating a well-established network. While the complaint lays out the charges, it’s crucial to remember these are accusations. The burden of proof lies with the prosecution, and Campos is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a federal jury.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert M. Smith. The investigation was a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Lee’s Summit Police Department, the Jackson County Drug Task Force, and the FBI. The bust is directly tied to Operation LeGend, a federal initiative launched to combat the surge in violent crime that plagued Kansas City in 2020.

Operation LeGend was established in response to a record-breaking year for homicides and shootings, including the tragic death of four-year-old LeGend Taliferro. The operation bolstered local law enforcement with additional federal agents from the FBI, DEA, ATF, and U.S. Marshals Service. While the city continues to grapple with violent crime, busts like this send a message: those who profit from illegal drugs and firearms will face the full force of the law.
