South Sioux City, Nebraska native Joseph Haack, 23, was handed a 33-month federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm.
\\
The sentence, imposed on November 18, 2021, by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand, follows Haack’s July 12, 2021, plea of guilty to the charge.
\\
Haack was caught twice with stolen firearms in Sioux City, Iowa, both times while armed and under the influence of methamphetamine and marijuana. The first instance involved a stolen rifle during a traffic stop on November 2, 2020. The second arrest came just days later when he shoplifted while wielding a loaded handgun.
\\
Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Sioux City Police Department. Haack’s sentence also includes a two-year supervised release term following his prison term.
\\
The conviction is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the DOJ’s initiative aimed at reducing violent crime through comprehensive community solutions and targeted enforcement against violent offenders.
