Corey Dunn, Jr. Marijuana Possession, Iowa 2019

Grimy Times has learned that a 20-year-old Waterloo, Iowa resident has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for possessing a handgun while under the influence of marijuana.

Corey Dunn, Jr., 20, was found with a loaded .38 caliber revolver and over 70 grams of marijuana during a traffic stop on June 6, 2019.

Dunn was a passenger in a car stopped by the Waterloo Police Department when officers discovered the loaded handgun and marijuana near his seat.

According to court documents, Dunn admitted to possessing the gun as a marijuana user and planned to distribute the marijuana.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative aimed at reducing violent crime by focusing enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders.

Dunn was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison and must serve a three-year term of supervised release after his release from prison.

He is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Morfitt and investigated by a Federal Task Force composed of the Waterloo Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
