Grimy Times Exclusive
A shocking tale of narcotics and deceit has unfolded in the sleepy town of Groves, Texas. Darrus Dugas, a 42-year-old man, has been sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine.
According to court records, Dugas pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine. U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone handed down the 210-month sentence on December 19, 2025.
The investigation, part of the nationwide Operation Take Back America, began in May 2023 when law enforcement executed a search warrant on Dugas’ residence due to reported drug activity. The search yielded a trove of illicit narcotics, including methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as drug trafficking paraphernalia and a staggering $13,000 in cash.
The investigation also led to the arrest of Alvaro Montrell Bethea. The case was a collaborative effort between the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Port Arthur Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Lee prosecuted the case.
The operation, aimed at repelling the invasion of illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime, has made significant strides in combating the narcotics trade.
Dugas’ sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in illicit activities. As the war on drugs continues, Grimy Times will stay vigilant, shedding light on the darkest corners of crime and corruption.
