Brazilian National Sentenced to Four Years in Prison for Selling Firearms
BOSTON – Luiz Antonio de Souza, a 42-year-old Brazilian national, was sentenced yesterday in federal court in Boston for selling 11 firearms, including one equipped with a large capacity magazine and another with an obliterated serial number.
According to the Department of Justice, de Souza was arrested in November 2023 after an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the FBI revealed his involvement in the sale of the firearms.
De Souza pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful interstate sale of firearms in July 2023. As part of his sentence, he was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine and serve four years in federal prison.
The investigation, which was led by the ATF, revealed that de Souza had sold the firearms to individuals in multiple states, including Massachusetts, New York, and Pennsylvania.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney K. Nathaniel Chin of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.
The sentencing of de Souza is a significant blow to the firearms trafficking rings operating in the region and serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in such activities.
