Jerome Terrell Davis, 30, of Andrews, has pleaded guilty to robbing a United States Postal Service mail carrier and participating in a marijuana trafficking conspiracy.
Evidence against Davis revealed that on September 23, 2019, he and co-defendant Trevor Raekwon Seward were expecting the arrival of two pounds of marijuana shipped via USPS. After discovering the package was to be claimed at the post office, Seward armed with an AR-15 opened fire on mail carrier Irene Pressley, shooting her multiple times.
Pressley’s vehicle was later abandoned with Pressley and her car in a ditch, while the stolen package was found nearby. Seward was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges for his role in the crime.
US District Judge Donald C. Coggins accepted Davis’ plea and will sentence him after reviewing a pre-sentence report. Davis faces up to twenty years for the robbery and five years for the drug conspiracy conviction.
‘Our office is committed to holding violent criminals accountable,’ said U.S. Attorney Adair F. Boroughs. ‘We are grateful for our partners’ efforts in bringing justice for the murder of Irene Pressley.’
Postal Inspector Tommy D. Coke emphasized the commitment to protecting Postal employees and thanked law enforcement agencies for their support. Williamsburg County Sheriff Stephen R. Gardner expressed relief that those responsible for the violent crime will be held accountable.
